Hi everyone, I'm a musician who recently moved to Dubai from Europe. Back home, the music scene was vibrant, with plenty of spots to jam, open mic nights, and live music hangouts.

I'm wondering if Dubai has a similar vibe or if there are any go-to spots for musicians to connect and jam? Whether it's open mic nights, casual jam sessions, or venues with live music opportunities, I'd love to know.

Appreciate any tips or recommendations!

The music scene here is more spread out than in most European cities, but it definitely exists. McGettigan's in JLT has a solid open mic night on Tuesdays that draws a good mix of acoustic acts and the occasional full band setup. For jazz, try The Jazz Bar at H Hotel on Sheikh Zayed Road, they sometimes let local musicians sit in during the later sets if you talk to the bandleader first.

If you're into heavier or rock stuff, The Music Room in Majestic Hotel gets a decent crowd for their jam sessions on Sundays. It can be a bit hit or miss depending on the week, but the regulars are friendly. What instrument do you play?

Check out Time Out Dubai or What's On Dubai. They usually have listings.

fibber magee's in barsha has a decent open mic on wednesdays i think, more of a singer-songwriter vibe but its a good place to meet other musicians. also worth checking out the irish village in barsha, they do live music most nights and the crowd is pretty chill about talking to the band between sets

Dubai/Sharjah Road Scam?

I helped a guy stranded on the ring road, gave him a ride to Ras Al Khaima after he claimed to have lost his wallet. Turns out he was fine, just jumped out and vanished. Did I get played? damn u basically did a free taxi run to rak. thing is they usually target cars with a single guy driving & look for dubai plates so u look like u got somewhere to be. best move is roll ur window down like two inches, say u already called the cops for them & keep moving, dont even unlock the door

yeah that's a known one on e311 & the sharjah ring road, usually they wave you down near the adnoc or before the rta cameras claiming wallet got lifted. classic play is they ask for a lift to the next emirate then bail once you slow down, sometimes a second guy on a bike is tracking you. next time just call 999 or drop them at the nearest police point, don't let anyone in your car off the highway ngl

The RAK route is the tell. No one genuinely stranded on the ring road needs to get all the way to Ras Al Khaimah, that's a 90 minute drive. These guys work in pairs and the second car picks them up after they hop out, usually somewhere past the Al Sajaa junction or near the ADNOC on E311. If it happens again, tell them you'll drive them to the nearest police station and watch how fast the story changes.
