Hi,

I will be visiting Dubai for two months between December 20th and Feb 20th. I am looking for gyms that offer short term memberships for one to two months?

I will be staying in the Jumeirah Golf Estates area. Does anyone have recommendations?

Thank you for your help!

Check with the fitness desk at Jumeirah Golf Estates' clubhouse before you go anywhere else. They run seasonal passes for visiting residents and non-members, usually around 1000 to 1500 aed for two months, which covers the pool and courts too. If that's not your vibe, there's a small CrossFit-style box called The Compound in Motor City, about ten minutes away, that lets you buy a monthly drop-in pass without any contract talk. It's a little rough around the edges but the coaching is solid and it's way less crowded than the chain spots. One thing I'd add, the December to February window is peak tourist season, so don't be surprised if some places quote you a higher "winter rate" upfront, just ask for the resident rate and see what sticks.

honestly, most gyms here push yearly contracts but you can negotiate. check out Fitness First, they have a branch in Meadows Town Centre, not too far from JGE. they do month to month but it's pricey, around 400 to 500 aed. if you're flexible, there's also a smaller spot called Warehouse Gym in Al Quoz, they're more chill and do short term no fuss, like 300 aed for a month. you might need to ask for a visitor pass first though. also worth checking if your building has a gym, sometimes it's included and decent enough.

yeah the building gym thing is real, a lot of the JGE villas and apartments have decent ones included. if that's not enough, check out the gym at the golf club itself, it's actually open to non-members sometimes and it's super convenient if you're on the estate. otherwise, there's a Gold's Gym in Arabian Ranches, like 15 mins drive, they usually do flexible passes during winter season cause of all the visitors. think it's around 350 aed a month if you haggle a bit. also, avoid the big chains near Marina, they'll try to lock u into a year and the parking's a nightmare anyway.

Dubai/Sharjah Road Scam?

I helped a guy stranded on the ring road, gave him a ride to Ras Al Khaima after he claimed to have lost his wallet. Turns out he was fine, just jumped out and vanished. Did I get played? damn u basically did a free taxi run to rak. thing is they usually target cars with a single guy driving & look for dubai plates so u look like u got somewhere to be. best move is roll ur window down like two inches, say u already called the cops for them & keep moving, dont even unlock the door

yeah that's a known one on e311 & the sharjah ring road, usually they wave you down near the adnoc or before the rta cameras claiming wallet got lifted. classic play is they ask for a lift to the next emirate then bail once you slow down, sometimes a second guy on a bike is tracking you. next time just call 999 or drop them at the nearest police point, don't let anyone in your car off the highway ngl

The RAK route is the tell. No one genuinely stranded on the ring road needs to get all the way to Ras Al Khaimah, that's a 90 minute drive. These guys work in pairs and the second car picks them up after they hop out, usually somewhere past the Al Sajaa junction or near the ADNOC on E311. If it happens again, tell them you'll drive them to the nearest police station and watch how fast the story changes.
