At AUH airport, I can ask for a taxi that will accept credit card as a payment? I have $USD cash and credit card with no forex fee. At most places such as the theme parks and attractions , they will accept credit card but in Old Dubai restaurants and for Taxi rides, we should have AED DIRHAM right? If I want to exchange around $400 to 600 USD for Dirham, where should I go for best rate and no fees? Maybe ask the taxi driver to stop at a currency exchange somewhere in dubai near our hotel? Do you guys have any recommendation to go get Dirham? Thanks

honestly just hit the atm at the Hyatt lobby, there's a mashreq bank one there. your card with no forex fee will get you a better rate than any exchange counter, and you won't have to waste time hunting for a place. for the taxi from AUH, the abu dhabi taxis at the terminal almost all take cards, just tell the guy at the taxi stand you need card payment and they'll assign you one. old dubai restaurants are hit or miss with cards, the smaller ones in deira prefer cash, but most places on the creek side like the ones near the gold souk will take card. if you really want cash, walk from the hyatt toward dubai creek park, there's a small al ansari exchange on al khaleej road that's open late and gives decent rates without fees

The exchange places in Al Rigga are probably your best bet, it's a short taxi ride from the Hyatt. Go to Al Ansari Exchange in Al Rigga, they have fair rates and no commission. For the taxi from AUH, most of the Abu Dhabi taxis take cards but the Dubai taxis that wait at the airport might not, just ask the dispatcher for one that accepts card. You'll be fine with card at most places in Old Dubai too, just keep some cash for the small cafeterias and the abra boat rides across the creek.

Just use an ATM when you get to Dubai, damn. Every bank machine in the city will give you a better rate than any exchange counter and your no-forex-fee card is exactly what you want. The taxi driver is not your personal concierge, you're not going to have him

Dubai/Sharjah Road Scam?

I helped a guy stranded on the ring road, gave him a ride to Ras Al Khaima after he claimed to have lost his wallet. Turns out he was fine, just jumped out and vanished. Did I get played? damn u basically did a free taxi run to rak. thing is they usually target cars with a single guy driving & look for dubai plates so u look like u got somewhere to be. best move is roll ur window down like two inches, say u already called the cops for them & keep moving, dont even unlock the door

yeah that's a known one on e311 & the sharjah ring road, usually they wave you down near the adnoc or before the rta cameras claiming wallet got lifted. classic play is they ask for a lift to the next emirate then bail once you slow down, sometimes a second guy on a bike is tracking you. next time just call 999 or drop them at the nearest police point, don't let anyone in your car off the highway ngl

The RAK route is the tell. No one genuinely stranded on the ring road needs to get all the way to Ras Al Khaimah, that's a 90 minute drive. These guys work in pairs and the second car picks them up after they hop out, usually somewhere past the Al Sajaa junction or near the ADNOC on E311. If it happens again, tell them you'll drive them to the nearest police station and watch how fast the story changes.
