Aussie expats! What's the quickest way to send $s back home?

I wanted to test with a small amount first, $3k, so I think it's very unlikely the transaction would've been flagged for scrutiny. I'm assuming the weekend has something to do with the delay, but still 4 days (and counting) is just very last century. I'm certain there are quicker ways of sending money home. Any suggestions?

honestly just ditch the bank transfer entirely for this. wise is solid but if you're moving 3k+ regularly, look at currencyfair or ofx, they do better rates on larger amounts. the 4 day wait is normal for ENBD to CBA, they go through a correspondent bank in singapore or somewhere before hitting aus, so weekends kill it. just set up a transfer on a monday morning before 11am dubai time and you'll have it in your cba account by tuesday night aus time.

Yeah, bank transfers from ENBD are painfully slow for AUD. I use TransferWise now too, but another option is to open a HSBC Premier account here and in Australia. The global transfers between HSBC accounts are instant and free, though you need to maintain a 350k AED balance to avoid fees. For your current setup, the weekend definitely stalled it, ENBD's correspondent bank in Australia probably doesn't process AUD until Monday morning Sydney time.

Give Wise a shot. I switched after a similar headache with ENBD's international transfers, and it's usually in the other account within a day. The rate is also closer to the mid-market rate than what the banks give you, so you'll save a bit on a 3k transfer. Just set up the transfer during Dubai business hours and it goes through faster.

Dubai/Sharjah Road Scam?

I helped a guy stranded on the ring road, gave him a ride to Ras Al Khaima after he claimed to have lost his wallet. Turns out he was fine, just jumped out and vanished. Did I get played? damn u basically did a free taxi run to rak. thing is they usually target cars with a single guy driving & look for dubai plates so u look like u got somewhere to be. best move is roll ur window down like two inches, say u already called the cops for them & keep moving, dont even unlock the door

yeah that's a known one on e311 & the sharjah ring road, usually they wave you down near the adnoc or before the rta cameras claiming wallet got lifted. classic play is they ask for a lift to the next emirate then bail once you slow down, sometimes a second guy on a bike is tracking you. next time just call 999 or drop them at the nearest police point, don't let anyone in your car off the highway ngl

The RAK route is the tell. No one genuinely stranded on the ring road needs to get all the way to Ras Al Khaimah, that's a 90 minute drive. These guys work in pairs and the second car picks them up after they hop out, usually somewhere past the Al Sajaa junction or near the ADNOC on E311. If it happens again, tell them you'll drive them to the nearest police station and watch how fast the story changes.
