fwiw if you're near Business Bay, the Lulu Exchange there has a USD to USD transfer option to Wio for 7 dirhams flat. no conversion fees, just walk in with your cash and tell them you want to do an online transfer to your Wio USD account. takes maybe 2 hours to show up in my experience

another thing nobody mentioned yet - you can use a Wio virtual card to fund your account from a prepaid USD card. get a Revolut or similar prepaid card, load it with your USD cash at one of those kiosks in DIFC, then add it to Apple Pay and transfer to Wio through the app. no conversion since both are USD, just a small loading fee at the kiosk

Wio doesn't have cash deposit points, so you'll need to go through an intermediate. You could deposit the USD cash into a Mashreq Neo account at their Al Rigga branch or a CBD account at a branch in Bur Dubai, then transfer to Wio via FAB's international transfer service. Both will cost you a flat fee around 10-15 dirhams for the transfer, but you avoid the 2-3% spread you'd get converting USD to AED and back. Just make sure the cash is crisp and newer notes, some branches get picky about worn bills.

the al rigga mashreq branch has a usd cash deposit machine, no teller needed. just walk in, deposit your cash directly, then do a free internal transfer to wio through their app. it shows up same day for me usually

Dubai/Sharjah Road Scam?

I helped a guy stranded on the ring road, gave him a ride to Ras Al Khaima after he claimed to have lost his wallet. Turns out he was fine, just jumped out and vanished. Did I get played? damn u basically did a free taxi run to rak. thing is they usually target cars with a single guy driving & look for dubai plates so u look like u got somewhere to be. best move is roll ur window down like two inches, say u already called the cops for them & keep moving, dont even unlock the door

yeah that's a known one on e311 & the sharjah ring road, usually they wave you down near the adnoc or before the rta cameras claiming wallet got lifted. classic play is they ask for a lift to the next emirate then bail once you slow down, sometimes a second guy on a bike is tracking you. next time just call 999 or drop them at the nearest police point, don't let anyone in your car off the highway ngl

The RAK route is the tell. No one genuinely stranded on the ring road needs to get all the way to Ras Al Khaimah, that's a 90 minute drive. These guys work in pairs and the second car picks them up after they hop out, usually somewhere past the Al Sajaa junction or near the ADNOC on E311. If it happens again, tell them you'll drive them to the nearest police station and watch how fast the story changes.
