Hey all,

I'm moving soon, and want to use the opportunity to sell my current setup i built in ~2016 and start fresh with a new setup. Now back in my day computer plaza was the goto spot for all tech and pc related needs. But recently I went with a friend and it was quite empty in terms of footfall. Shops were open and in business but idk I expected more. Is this still the best place?

Anyway. Im looking to sell my current PC, and get parts and monitor and stands and all that (preferably through tabby skull emoji). does anyone stand out? any notable good experiences/prices? or does it not matter?

Thank you to anyone in advance :)

since everyone's covered the main shops, i'll mention that if you're selling a full rig with a decent case, take the side panel off before you walk in. sounds basic but i've had shopkeepers offer more on the spot when they see clean cable management and no dust, they hate having to clean stuff themselves. for tabby on new parts, al attar's system usually works but i've noticed they mark up the listed price by like 5% if you use it, so ask for the cash price first then negotiate from there. also the food court upstairs has surprisingly good karak if you're there for a while, but skip the shawarma spot near the entrance it's gone downhill

The mezzanine level shops are worth a look if you're selling a full rig. There's a place called Al Khaleej Computers tucked behind the escalator, the owner gave me a fair price on my 2017 build last year without the usual back-and-forth. For new parts with tabby, check out the smaller store called PC Palace on the ground floor near the Al Ghurair exit, they had better prices on Samsung monitors than Al Attar when I was shopping last month and they didn't try to upsell me on anything.

nobody's mentioned the timing thing but honestly go on a weekday morning right when they open around 10am, the shopkeepers are still fresh and way more willing to negotiate. i sold my old rig last year by just walking around and asking three different shops for quotes, ended up taking the middle offer because the highest one felt sketchy

for new parts with tabby, instead of al attar check out the shop called gcc computers on the first floor near the food court side. they're smaller but their pricing on asus and msi stuff is usually better and they don't push their own financing as much. got my monitor arm from them too for like 70 dirhams

also fwiw if you're selling a full build, take a photo of the bios screen showing all your specs. saves you from having to explain everything to every shopkeeper and they take you more seriously

Dubai/Sharjah Road Scam?

I helped a guy stranded on the ring road, gave him a ride to Ras Al Khaima after he claimed to have lost his wallet. Turns out he was fine, just jumped out and vanished. Did I get played? damn u basically did a free taxi run to rak. thing is they usually target cars with a single guy driving & look for dubai plates so u look like u got somewhere to be. best move is roll ur window down like two inches, say u already called the cops for them & keep moving, dont even unlock the door

yeah that's a known one on e311 & the sharjah ring road, usually they wave you down near the adnoc or before the rta cameras claiming wallet got lifted. classic play is they ask for a lift to the next emirate then bail once you slow down, sometimes a second guy on a bike is tracking you. next time just call 999 or drop them at the nearest police point, don't let anyone in your car off the highway ngl

The RAK route is the tell. No one genuinely stranded on the ring road needs to get all the way to Ras Al Khaimah, that's a 90 minute drive. These guys work in pairs and the second car picks them up after they hop out, usually somewhere past the Al Sajaa junction or near the ADNOC on E311. If it happens again, tell them you'll drive them to the nearest police station and watch how fast the story changes.
