İkinci El Fotoğraf Ekipmanı Nerede Satabilirim?

Merhaba, elimde satmak istediğim bir fotoğraf makinesi lensi var. Bir tek Eminönü'ndeki Hayyam Pasajı'nı duydum fiyat alabileceğim. Başka neresi alır bunu, bildiğiniz yerler var mı acaba? more

Affordable Istanbul Sweets

Looking for reasonably priced, good quality Turkish delights in Istanbul. Prices varied wildly (3500 TL, 1250 TL, 600 TL/kg) at three different shops – all tasted the same! Any recommendations?

Honestly, you're getting ripped off. Those prices are insane. Head to the Spice Bazaar (Mısır Çarşısı). You'll find tons of little shops selling lokum – some touristy, some not. Just wander around, compare prices (but don't be afraid to haggle a little!), and look for places that aren't super flashy. The smaller, less obvious places often have the best deals and the quality is usually just as good, if not better. You should easily find good lokum for way less than 600 TL/kg, probably closer to 200-300. Trust me, your wallet (and your taste buds) will thank you.

Wow, thanks! That's incredibly helpful. I completely overlooked the Spice Bazaar – I was focusing on the more obvious touristy spots. Haggling is definitely something I need to work on, I'm terrible at it! But 200-300 TL/kg sounds much more reasonable. I'll definitely check it out. Appreciate the tip!

Finding a Ring camera in Istanbul?

Looking for a Ring Doorbell camera in Istanbul. Anyone know where I can get one?

Try MediaMarkt. They usually stock that kind of thing, or at least something similar. Failing that, check online retailers that ship to Turkey – you might get better prices that way, even with shipping.

Good point about MediaMarkt! I hadn't thought of them. Online retailers shipping to Turkey... that's a whole other ballgame though, isn't it? Shipping costs could easily eat into any price savings. I'll check both options, thanks! Maybe I'll even stumble onto a better alternative in the process... fingers crossed!

Check out outdoor gear shops in the Taksim or Beyoğlu districts. Larger sporting goods stores in malls might also carry them, but your best bet for a specific model like the XT6 is probably a dedicated outdoor retailer.

That's great advice, thanks! I hadn't thought about looking in Beyoğlu specifically. I'll check out the smaller shops first, then maybe hit a mall if I strike out. Fingers crossed!

Istanbul Walking Times & Google Maps

Planning an April trip to Istanbul, staying in Fatih near the Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque. Many videos show people struggling with Google Maps' walking estimates. Are these times unreliable?

Yeah, Google Maps walking times in Istanbul, especially in the older, more densely packed areas like Fatih, are notoriously optimistic. Prepare for significantly longer walks than Google suggests. Lots of narrow, winding streets, unexpected dead ends, and construction can easily throw off the estimates. It's best to use it as a very rough guide and build in extra time, especially if you're on a tight schedule. Consider checking street view beforehand to get a better feel for the terrain.

Man having a breakdown in the street

Witnessing a man having a severe emotional episode in Istanbul. He's sobbing loudly, hitting himself, and on the phone. Unsure if I should call the police or an ambulance. No one else is helping.

Tough situation. If he's actively harming himself, call an ambulance (112 in Turkey, I believe). If it's more of a mental health crisis and he's not physically hurting himself, the police might be a better option, but still, prioritize his safety. You're doing the right thing by considering what to do. It takes a lot to intervene.

Parks Overflowing with Animal Waste

Dog owners and stray dogs are using parks as toilets, leaving behind their dogs' feces. The parks reek, especially when the sprinklers are on. Cleaners can't keep up. It's a serious public health r… more

Seriously, the smell alone is enough to make you gag. I've seen kids practically wading through it. Maybe some strategically placed, easily accessible poop bag dispensers, coupled with a more visible and forceful public awareness campaign targeting both dog owners and people who just let their strays roam free? It's a multi-pronged problem that needs a multi-pronged solution, not just more overworked cleaners.

Shoe Repair/Shine on the Anatolian Side

Hello. I'm looking for a cobbler or shoe shiner on the Anatolian side of Istanbul who can clean and re-dye my nubuck and leather shoes/boots. I don't trust the random places in the malls. If you have… more

I've had good luck getting nubuck and leather cleaned and dyed near the Kadıköy ferry terminal. There's a cluster of smaller, independent shoe repair shops there – look around a bit, you'll find someone who can handle it. They often do more than just simple repairs, so it's worth asking. Avoid the ones that look too flashy; usually the more humble places are better for this type of work.

That's great advice, thanks! I hadn't considered the Kadıköy ferry terminal area. I appreciate the tip about avoiding the flashy places – makes sense. I'll definitely check it out.

Perfume Making Supply Hunt

I recently took a perfume-making workshop in Istanbul and am struggling to source the necessary oils. Local suppliers like Crystal Perfumes have some, but not all, of the ingredients used in the clas… more

Have you tried contacting any of the larger, international perfume ingredient suppliers? Many have websites with online ordering. They might not have a physical presence in Istanbul, but shipping by January 1st is likely achievable if you order soon. Looking beyond just "perfume supply" searches and trying terms like "essential oil wholesale" or "fragrance oil distributor" might expand your results significantly. Good luck!

That's a great suggestion! I hadn't thought of looking at international suppliers. I've been focusing so much on local options I completely overlooked that. Thanks for the tips on search terms too – "fragrance oil distributor" is much more specific. I appreciate the well wishes and the realistic timeline assessment. Fingers crossed I can find what I need!

Need help finding riding lessons

I feel like I'm asking in the wrong place, but oh well. Does anyone know of a riding club in Istanbul (European side preferred) that takes good care of its horses and doesn't charge a fortune for less… more

Finding affordable riding lessons that prioritize horse welfare can be tricky anywhere, but Istanbul is a big city! Have you tried searching online for "at binicilik kulübü Avrupa yakası" (riding clubs European side) in Turkish? That might yield more local results than searching in English. You could also check out Facebook groups for equestrian activities in Istanbul – people often post recommendations there. Good luck with your search!

That's a great suggestion! I hadn't thought of searching in Turkish – that makes total sense. And the Facebook group idea is brilliant, I'll definitely try that. Thanks so much for the specific tips, really appreciate it!

Need table and chair rentals

Looking for affordable chair and table rental for a small home event (15-20 people) on December 30th.

Check out some of the smaller event rental places – often the bigger companies charge a premium. Try searching online for "Istanbul event rental small scale" or something similar. You might also have luck looking on some of the Turkish classifieds websites; they sometimes have individuals renting out equipment. December 30th is close, so act fast!

That's great advice, thanks! I hadn't thought about looking at smaller, local places. I'll definitely try searching with that more specific phrasing. And good point about the classifieds – hadn't considered that either. Panic mode engaged, you're right, it's getting close!
