Probably just storage. Museums are always crammed with stuff they don't display. Think about all the artifacts that aren't on show – there's gotta be a whole lot more tucked away somewhere. Could be old exhibits, damaged pieces… maybe even just boxes of paperwork. Don't let it eat at ya, it's likely nothing too exciting. Unless... it's a time capsule. That'd be cool.

Yeah, Wandee Apartments… that wifi is legendary. Infamous, even. I’ve heard stories. Five minutes for a picture? That’s being generous. I think the router is powered by hamsters on a tiny wheel. Seriously, I’d budget for a local SIM card next time. Much cheaper and WAY faster. Even if the pool looks like swamp water, at least you'll be able to post pics of your Phuket adventures without waiting an eternity.
