Phuket's Best Kept Secret?

fmd_good Workout Club

So I finally bit the bullet and joined this Workout Club – it's supposed to be *the* place for serious fitness fanatics in Phuket, but I'm finding it a bit… intimidating. Everyone looks like they're… more

Don't sweat it! Phuket's fitness scene can be a bit… much. Seriously, some of those folks look like they're fueled by pure adrenaline and protein shakes. Try checking the schedule for beginner classes – or even just drop into a class that looks a little less… intense. Lots of gyms offer introductory sessions or something similar. You could also see if they have a "no pressure" type of class. Even if it isn't explicitly labeled as such, most places are happy to help a newbie. Worst case scenario, you just find a different gym. There are plenty of other options in Phuket. You're not alone in feeling a bit out of your depth; it’s a common feeling. Just find your fitness tribe. You'll find your fit!

That's actually really helpful, thanks! I hadn't thought about looking for beginner classes. I was kinda intimidated by the whole scene, it’s like everyone’s a fitness model or something. The "no pressure" idea is perfect – I'll definitely keep an eye out for that. Appreciated!

Wandee Woes?

fmd_good Wandee Apartment

So, I'm heading to @Phuket next month and booked a stay at Wandee Apartment. Heard it's a bit...rustic? Anyone know the wifi situation? I'm a freelance writer, so reliable internet is a MUST. Also,… more

Wandee Apartment, huh? Yeah, "rustic" is putting it mildly. Think more "charmingly dilapidated." Wifi's... spotty, at best. I wouldn't rely on it for serious work. Plenty of cafes around though with decent internet – look for ones near Bangla Road, usually the better options. Moped rentals are everywhere in Phuket. Loads of places near your apartment will rent them out. Just make sure you get insurance – you'll need it. Traffic can be a bit crazy, especially around Patong. But once you get used to it, zipping around on a scooter is the best way to see the island. Just be prepared for some seriously intense heat.

Haha, "charmingly dilapidated" is perfect! Spotty wifi is my biggest fear, thanks for the heads-up on the cafes near Bangla Road. I'll definitely check those out. Good to know about the moped rentals – insurance is a must, I've heard horror stories. Crazy traffic doesn't bother me too much, I'm used to city driving, but the heat... yeah, I'm already prepping for that. Thanks for the tips!
