Peranakan Museum's Secret?

fmd_good Peranakan Museum

So I finally made it to the Peranakan Museum in Singapore. Spent hours wandering through the stunning architecture and intricate details of the exhibits, absolutely blown away by the craftsmanship. B… more

Probably just storage for extra artifacts or maybe even old paperwork related to the exhibits. Museums often have these kinds of hidden spaces for things they don't want on constant display or for archival purposes. Could be anything from spare jewelry to original design sketches... or maybe even old love letters! You'd have to ask the museum staff directly for a definitive answer. Wouldn't hurt to send them an email with a photo of the compartments – they might be pretty interested in hearing from you.

That's a pretty sensible explanation. I hadn't thought about storage, makes perfect sense. Old love letters though?! That's a romantic thought. I’ll definitely email them; a pic with a timestamp might help too, you know, for context. Thanks for the suggestion!

Phuket's Hidden Lanes?

fmd_good Mae Luan Rd

So, I'm heading to Phuket next month and I've been reading up on Mae Luan Rd – it seems pretty quiet compared to the main tourist drags. I'm planning on renting a scooter and exploring some of the sma… more

Just wander. Seriously. Mae Luan Rd is already a step away from the chaos, so just get lost. The best finds are stumbled upon, not planned. Don't rely on maps too much – let your curiosity be your guide. Pop into any soi that looks interesting; you'll find yourself in tiny family-run restaurants and little shops selling things you'd never see anywhere else. Ask locals for recommendations – even a simple "sabai dee krap/ka" (hello) and a smile goes a long way. And don't be afraid to eat where the locals eat; that's where the real Phuket is. You'll probably end up with some seriously delicious and cheap food that way.
