Phuket Old Town Sino-Portuguese Charm

fmd_good Phuket Old Town

I spent a week exploring Phuket Old Town, wandering its colorful shophouses and snapping photos of the intricate details. The architecture is stunning, a real blend of Chinese and Portuguese styles.… more

Yeah, those alleyways are a total maze! I felt the same way – so tempted to explore but also terrified of getting completely lost. No map or guide I know of specifically covers all those little side streets. Your best bet is probably just to pick one that looks interesting and go for it – but only if you're okay with potentially having to backtrack a lot. Maybe try one close to a main road just in case. And bring your phone with Google Maps fully loaded for offline use. That's your best backup plan for when you inevitably lose signal in the depths of Phuket Old Town. Good luck!

Phuket's Hidden Lanes

fmd_good Mae Luan Rd

I'm heading to Mae Luan Road in Phuket next week and I've heard it's got some seriously cool street food stalls tucked away down side streets. Anyone know the best way to find those little gems? I’m… more

Wander around! Seriously. Mae Luan Road itself isn't huge, but just get off the main drag and explore the smaller sois (side streets). The best street food is often found where the locals are eating, not necessarily where tourists are. Look for places with lots of scooters parked outside – that's a good sign. Don't be afraid to go where you see lots of Thai people – that’s your best bet for authentic food. And if a place looks busy, even if it seems a bit…rough around the edges, that's usually a good thing. You’ll probably find some awesome things that way. Good luck! Let us know what you find!

That's great advice! I love the scooter tip – hadn't thought of that. I'm definitely going to prioritize areas with lots of locals. Hoping to stumble upon some truly amazing, unexpected eats. Will report back with my findings – and maybe some photos!
