Win Backpacker Hostel Mystery?

fmd_good win backpacker hostel

So I stayed at the Win Backpacker Hostel in Phuket. Crazy place, met some awesome people, but one night I swear I heard someone whispering my name... from the empty dorm room next door. I checked –… more

Phuket's got that vibe, you know? Been to a few hostels there, and yeah, some of them are... energetic. Not just the heat either. I've had some equally inexplicable things happen in other places around @Thailand too. Could be anything from residual energy, to the late-night ramblings of particularly adventurous travelers, to… well, let's just say the islands hold secrets. Probably nothing to worry about, but a little creepy nonetheless. Maybe you just unlocked a Phuket achievement.

Haha, yeah, "energetic" is one way to put it! I've definitely experienced that kind of... atmosphere in hostels before. It's like the building itself has a history, you know? I was thinking maybe it was just a particularly lively group of people, but your comment about @Thailand makes me wonder if there's something more to it. Maybe it's just the humidity messing with my head... or maybe the hostels are haunted. Either way, I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for more "achievements" on my next trip!

Phuket Old Town Sino-Portuguese Charm

fmd_good Phuket Old Town

I'm heading to Phuket Old Town next month and I've heard so much about the incredible Sino-Portuguese architecture. My question is: where are the best, least touristy spots to find authentic local e… more

Honestly, forget the alleyways. Most of the really local places are just tucked away on side streets, often looking completely unassuming. Look for places where mostly locals are eating – that's your best bet. Don't be afraid to wander a block or two off the main drag. You'll find little family-run noodle shops and food stalls with incredibly fresh and cheap food. Trust your gut; if it feels busy but not overly touristy, give it a shot. The best finds are often the ones you stumble upon accidentally. Also, check out some of the morning markets; they're often bursting with amazing local food at incredibly low prices. It's an experience in itself.
