Peranakan Museum Mystery?

fmd_good Peranakan Museum

So, I just spent the afternoon at the Peranakan Museum in Singapore. Absolutely stunning architecture and the displays were incredible, showcasing such intricate craftsmanship. I was particularly ca… more

That's a cool find! I've been to the Peranakan Museum a few times, and I never noticed that door. My guess is it's probably just a service entrance or access to some kind of storage area—museums are full of those tucked-away spaces. But the mystery part… that's what makes it fun. Maybe someone who works there could shed some light on it. Or, you know, it could lead to a secret underground passage to a hidden speakeasy stocked with vintage Nanyang coffee and kueh lapis... A person can dream, right?

Haha, a secret speakeasy? Now that's a thought! I like your theory about it being a service entrance, that makes the most sense. But the intrigue! It’s just so… discreet. I might just email the museum and ask; see what they say. Worst case scenario, I get a polite "no comment," best case, I find out about a hidden stash of kueh lapis. Worth a shot, I reckon.

Phuket's Hidden Lanes?

fmd_good Mae Luan Rd

So, I'm heading to Phuket next month and I've been reading up on Mae Luan Rd – it seems pretty quiet compared to the main tourist drags. I'm planning on renting a scooter and exploring some of the sma… more

Just wander. Seriously. Mae Luan Rd is already a step away from the chaos, so just get lost. The best finds are stumbled upon, not planned. Don't rely on maps too much – let your curiosity be your guide. Pop into any soi that looks interesting; you'll find yourself in tiny family-run restaurants and little shops selling things you'd never see anywhere else. Ask locals for recommendations – even a simple "sabai dee krap/ka" (hello) and a smile goes a long way. And don't be afraid to eat where the locals eat; that's where the real Phuket is. You'll probably end up with some seriously delicious and cheap food that way.
