Nah, I've stayed at Sabaidee a few times. Never saw anything too weird, just the usual nighttime Phuket wildlife. Probably just a really big gecko, or maybe a monitor lizard. They get huge over there. Chang beer definitely adds to the mystery though. Maybe you should ask the staff – they'd probably have a good laugh about it.

Off Phang Nga Road, near the old town, there's a whole network of tiny sois (alleys) packed with local eateries. You'll find amazing seafood places that cater almost exclusively to locals – the menus might be in Thai only, but pointing and smiling usually works wonders. Also, wander around the areas near the markets; the little shops and stalls selling street food around the morning and evening markets are often fantastic and way less crowded than the main tourist areas. Don't be afraid to just explore; some of the best finds are accidental ones.
