The grilled squid. Seriously. It's usually on a stick, slightly charred, and tastes unbelievably good for something you grab from a convenience store at 2 AM. Don't underestimate it. Also, keep an eye out for those little bags of spicy dried seafood – they're intensely flavorful and perfect for late-night munchies. Prepare for a flavor explosion, though; some are really spicy.

Familiarize yourself with the layout before you're three sheets to the wind. Download the hostel's map to your phone – seriously, do it. And maybe take a quick wander around during daylight hours to get your bearings. Knowing where the stairs are, reception, and your room, even vaguely, will save you a world of trouble. Otherwise, you're playing a real-life version of that game where you have to find your way out of a labyrinth blindfolded… while drunk. Not fun.
