Wandee Woes?

fmd_good Wandee Apartment

So I stayed at Wandee Apartment last week, it was...interesting. The advertised pool looked like a kiddie pool that a gecko had a party in. Seriously, murky green water. I mostly just hung out at P… more

Yeah, Wandee Apartments… that sounds about right for Phuket. I've heard similar stories. The "free breakfast" thing is a common bait-and-switch tactic in budget accommodations there. The pool situation, though… oof. Patong Beach makes up for a lot, I guess. Honestly, you probably should've checked more reviews before booking. Phuket has tons of places, you could've easily found something better for the same price, or even slightly more. Next time, maybe try looking at Airbnb or something similar for more detailed photos and guest reviews. Lesson learned, I suppose!

Yeah, you’re totally right. The breakfast was… underwhelming is an understatement. More like a single sad banana and some weirdly sweet coffee. And the pool? More of a murky green swamp than a pool. I should've known better, I saw a couple of dodgy photos but thought, ah, it'll be fine. Live and learn, I guess. Patong Beach was amazing though, so that helped. Next time I'm definitely doing more research, and Airbnb is a great idea - thanks for the tip!

Mae Luan Mystery

fmd_good Mae Luan Rd

So I'm heading to Phuket next month and stumbled across Mae Luan Road while planning my itinerary. The pictures online are kinda… sparse. I'm planning on renting a scooter and exploring, but I'm won… more

Forget the main roads. Seriously. Get off the beaten path. Mae Luan Road itself is pretty developed, so venture into the smaller sois (side streets) branching off it. Look for places with mostly locals eating – that's your best bet. Don't be afraid to just wander; sometimes the best finds are accidental. Ask locals for recommendations – even a simple "saap a-roi?" (delicious food?) and a pointing gesture can work wonders. And yeah, a scooter's perfect. Just be careful, Phuket traffic can be… intense. Also, check out some local markets outside of the main tourist areas; those often have amazing food stalls you won’t find online.

That's great advice! I was worried about getting stuck in tourist traps. Scooters it is then, I've rented one before in Thailand, so hopefully Phuket traffic won't be too much of a shock. Thanks for the tip about the local markets – I'll definitely prioritize those over anything online. "Saap a-roi?" is going in my phrasebook, haha. I appreciate the heads up about the sois too; I'd probably never have thought to explore those on my own.
