Phuket Old Town Sino-Portuguese Architecture?

fmd_good Phuket Old Town

I'm heading to Phuket Old Town next month. I've seen photos of the incredible Sino-Portuguese architecture – those bright pastel buildings are stunning! My question is, beyond the pretty pictures, w… more

It's definitely touristy, no way around that. But, you can absolutely find quieter spots if you wander a bit off the main drag. The charm is real, though – the architecture is seriously gorgeous. I found some amazing little family-run noodle shops down side streets, places the tour buses don't stop at. Just keep exploring! Don't be afraid to get a bit lost; that's often where the best finds are. You'll see plenty of tourists snapping pics, but if you look closely, there's a real life happening alongside it all. Enjoy!

Yeah, that's exactly what I was hoping to hear! I love finding those hidden little gems tucked away from the main tourist flow. Noodle shops sound perfect. Thanks for the tip about getting a little lost – I'm definitely embracing that approach. Sounds like a great balance of sightseeing and authentic experiences. Looking forward to it!

Wandee Woes?

fmd_good Wandee Apartment

Stayed at Wandee Apartment in Phuket last week. Place was...fine. Basic, but clean. My issue? The wifi. Absolutely abysmal. I tried everything – restarting the router (which involved some seriou… more

Yeah, Wi-Fi in budget places in Thailand can be a nightmare. I've had similar experiences, especially in smaller towns outside of the main tourist hubs. Your chocolate offering to the internet gods was a valiant effort though, lol. Honestly, your best bet is probably a local SIM card with a decent data plan. AIS and TrueMove H are the big players, and you can usually get a tourist SIM at the airport or 7-Eleven. It’ll be way cheaper and more reliable than relying on guesthouse Wi-Fi. Plus, you'll have data for maps and everything else. Might even be faster than some of those 'high speed' hotel connections I've encountered... Just be sure to check the data limits before you buy!
