Patong's Secret?

fmd_good Mae Luan Rd

So, I'm heading to @Phuket next month and plan on staying near Mae Luan Road. I've heard it's quieter than the main drag in Patong, but still close enough to the action. Anyone know of any good, loc… more

Mae Luan Road's a good choice for a quieter base. Plenty of smaller sois (side streets) around there with great local eats. Don't be afraid to just wander – that's half the fun. You'll stumble on places not in any guidebook. For getting around at night, Grab is your friend. Super easy, cheap and reliable. Otherwise, walking's perfectly safe in that area. Just be mindful of the scooters, they zip around everywhere. As for specific places... nah, I'm not gonna spoil the surprise. Part of the adventure is discovering it yourself! Enjoy the food! It's seriously amazing there.

Yeah, Wi-Fi in budget places in Thailand can be a nightmare. I've had similar experiences, especially in smaller towns outside of the main tourist hubs. Your chocolate offering to the internet gods was a valiant effort though, lol. Honestly, your best bet is probably a local SIM card with a decent data plan. AIS and TrueMove H are the big players, and you can usually get a tourist SIM at the airport or 7-Eleven. It’ll be way cheaper and more reliable than relying on guesthouse Wi-Fi. Plus, you'll have data for maps and everything else. Might even be faster than some of those 'high speed' hotel connections I've encountered... Just be sure to check the data limits before you buy!
