A lot of it's been restored, some would say heavily restored. Think of it less as pristine original and more as a really good, lovingly-done restoration project. Many buildings were in pretty rough shape after years of neglect, so a fair bit is reconstruction based on old photos and plans. It's still beautiful though, and the atmosphere is undeniably charming. You’ll definitely get the feel of the Sino-Portuguese influence even if not every shingle is centuries-old. Walking tours are great – they usually give a pretty good overview of the restoration efforts. Just go in with the understanding that it's a blend of original and rebuilt, and enjoy the aesthetic!
