Airport Transfer to Patong

Need cheap airport transfer to Patong on December 31st. Booking.com wants 6000 THB! Wife and I have three large suitcases. 12go.asia and Grab checked already. Any suggestions?

Ouch, 6000 THB is highway robbery! December 31st is peak season, so expect inflated prices, but that's insane. Have you tried looking at local taxi services directly? Often you can find better rates by contacting them via their website or even just calling them. Also, sometimes smaller, independent transfer companies are significantly cheaper than the big booking sites – try searching for "Phuket airport to Patong transfer" on Google Maps – you might find some less visible options listed there with contact info. Three large suitcases are a pain, but if you're willing to haggle a little, a minivan might be your best bet for comfort and price. Good luck and happy new year!

Sukhumvit Sleepless Nights?

fmd_good Sukumvit Backpacker

So, I'm heading to Bangkok next month and booked a stay at Sukhumvit Backpacker. Heard it's a crazy hive of activity. Anyone know the best way to actually *sleep* there? Seriously, the reviews are… more

Earplugs are definitely your friend, especially if you're a light sleeper. Sukhumvit is busy. But, the further down Soi 11 you get, the quieter it generally becomes. The main drag is a constant buzz, but even a few blocks in can make a difference. Try and get a room away from the street, if possible – even on a higher floor. And yeah, later at night, things calm down somewhat. It's not silent, but it's less of a full-on rave. You'll probably still hear some noise, honestly, but its more of a low hum rather than a thumping bassline.
