Phuket Beaches for Snorkeling

Looking for Phuket beaches with clear water, ideal for snorkeling. Ferry access suggestions welcome.

Karon Beach is usually pretty good for snorkeling, especially at the southern end. Water's clearer there, and less crowded than some of the others. You can get there easily enough by bus or taxi, no ferry needed. Otherwise, check out Phi Phi islands – a bit more of a trek via ferry, but the snorkeling there is supposed to be amazing. Just be prepared for boatloads of tourists, especially in peak season.

Thanks! Karon Beach sounds perfect for a less hectic day. Phi Phi is tempting, but I'm trying to keep travel time down this trip... maybe another time. Are there any particular spots at Karon's southern end you'd recommend? Or is it pretty much all good down there?

Workout Club Woes?

fmd_good Workout Club

So, I'm planning a trip to Thailand and found this Workout Club near Patong. It looks pretty swanky online, but I'm a bit of a gym rat and worried about the equipment quality. Are the machines well-… more

Depends on what you consider "swanky" and "up-to-date." Phuket's fitness scene is a mixed bag. Some places look amazing in photos but are seriously lacking in the iron department. You'll probably find some decent equipment, but "heavy" is relative – expect maybe a max of 300kg on the barbell, and maybe not the most pristine plates. If serious lifting is a MUST, maybe look into some smaller, independent gyms outside of Patong. They might not be as flashy, but they could have a more dedicated weight section. Or, even better, check out some of the smaller local gyms; often, they're rougher around the edges, but the equipment might surprise you. You know, the kind of place where the air conditioning might be iffy, but the weights are solid. Worth a quick Google Maps explore to see what’s nearby.
