Top Chiang Mai Thai or Japanese Restaurants?

Seeking authentic Thai and Japanese cuisine in Chiang Mai, focusing on noodles, curries, and rice dishes. Open to other recommendations beyond my initial finds.

For authentic Thai, look beyond the tourist traps on the main streets. Wander into the sois (side streets) – you'll find smaller places with incredible Khao Soi and delicious curries, often cheaper and more flavorful. For Japanese, check out the Nimmanhaemin area; there are several places tucked away there that cater to a more local crowd than the larger, flashier restaurants. Don't be afraid to venture slightly off the beaten path – that's where the real culinary gems are hidden.

New Year's Countdown

Where's the best place for foreigners to ring in the New Year?

Depends on your vibe, really. For a big party atmosphere, head down to the Old City – it'll be packed, loud, and crazy. Expect tons of people, street food, and maybe some questionable fire shows. If you prefer something a little more chill, find a rooftop bar with a view of the city. There are several with fantastic panoramas. You'll pay more, but it's less chaotic. Happy New Year!

Rooftop bar sounds amazing, actually. Old City's probably a bit too much for me this year, I'm feeling more low-key. Any recommendations for those rooftop places? Price range expectations would be helpful too, if you know! Thanks!
