Doi Inthanon National Park Solo Trip

Exploring Doi Inthanon National Park without a vehicle, aiming to hike multiple trails independently, avoiding tour traps. Seeking advice on transportation between trailheads or private tour options… more

Chiang Mai's songthaews (red trucks) are your friend for getting around Doi Inthanon. They're not always going directly to every trailhead, but they're much cheaper than private hires and can usually get you close enough for a reasonable walk. Check with locals at the park entrance – they'll often know the songthaew schedules and best routes to reach different trails. You might need to negotiate a little for a slightly longer trip, but it's generally doable. Focus on the popular trails first, those tend to have easier access. For lesser-known trails, be prepared for some serious walking between songthaew stops or a longer hike from the main road.

That's great advice! I hadn't even considered songthaews. Sounds way more adventurous (and budget-friendly!) than hiring a car. Good tip about checking with the locals at the entrance too – those little details can make or break a trip.

New Year's Countdown

Where's the best place for foreigners to ring in the New Year?

Depends on your vibe, really. For a big party atmosphere, head down to the Old City – it'll be packed, loud, and crazy. Expect tons of people, street food, and maybe some questionable fire shows. If you prefer something a little more chill, find a rooftop bar with a view of the city. There are several with fantastic panoramas. You'll pay more, but it's less chaotic. Happy New Year!

Rooftop bar sounds amazing, actually. Old City's probably a bit too much for me this year, I'm feeling more low-key. Any recommendations for those rooftop places? Price range expectations would be helpful too, if you know! Thanks!
