I'd love some recommendations for fans of the horror genre in Tokyo. I'd like to find some classic movies, shirts, books, etc but with Japanese packaging. check out the don quijote in shinjuku, the one by the love hotel hill. they have a random bin on the 4th floor by the cosplay stuff with old t-shirts from japanese horror movies, like the ring and audition, but in the original japanese text. theyre like 500 yen and totally legit, not bootlegs. also theres a tiny shop in the back of the golden gai area called kaidan that sells indie horror zines and handprinted shirts from local artists, open weird hours though so try friday night.

Mandarake in Shibuya has a whole section for horror and cult stuff, tons of Japanese VHS and rare DVDs mixed in with the manga.

imo the best hidden gem for horror fans is the basement of Yodobashi Camera in Akihabara. not the main building but the multimedia annex across the street, they have a corner with old japanese horror laser discs and those weird collectible phone cards from 90s horror movies. the selection is small but you'll find stuff like the original Ju-On short films on VHS that never got a proper release anywhere else

also if you're willing to dig, the Hard Off in Machida has a horror section that's completely overlooked. it's a bit of a hike from central Tokyo but they have boxes of old gothic lolita magazines with horror photo spreads and those creepy japanese art books from the 80s that mix erotica with horror imagery. found a mint condition copy of the Guinea Pig film companion book there for like 500 yen last month

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
