Bansomdejchaopraya Uni Food?

fmd_good Bansomdejchaopraya Rajabhat University

So I'm heading to Bansomdejchaopraya Rajabhat University next week for a conference. Heard the street food around the uni is amazing, but navigating Thai menus is always a challenge for me. Any tips… more

Look for food stalls near the university gates – the ones frequented by students are usually a good bet. They’ll often have pictures, or at least you can point and gesture. Don't be afraid to use Google Translate's camera function; it's surprisingly helpful for Thai menus. And seriously, ask the vendors – most are really friendly and will happily point out less spicy options. Try to find something with "Gai" (chicken) or "Pla" (fish) in it; those are usually pretty safe bets. You'll find much more than Pad Thai, I promise! Good luck with the conference!

That's great advice! Thanks so much. I hadn't thought about using the camera function on Google Translate – that's a lifesaver. I'll definitely look for the student hangouts near the gates. And I appreciate the chicken and fish suggestions; I'm a bit of a scaredy-cat when it comes to spicy food haha. Hoping to find some delicious and relatively mild options.

Bangkok's Best Kept Secret?

fmd_good Mandarin Oriental Hotel

I'm heading to the Mandarin Oriental next month for a long overdue solo trip. I've heard amazing things, especially about their rooftop bar. But I'm curious, what's the best way to experience the ho… more

Skip the rooftop bar entirely on your first night. Head down to the Authors' Lounge instead. It’s quieter, more intimate, and steeped in history. Order a classic cocktail – something they’ve been making there for decades – and just soak it all in. The atmosphere is incredible, and you’ll feel the weight of all those years of stories. Then, wander the hotel grounds. It's not just a hotel, it’s a sprawling complex with amazing architecture and hidden little courtyards. Find a quiet spot by the river and just watch the boats go by. That's how you'll really feel the place, not just see it. Don't be afraid to get lost; that's where the magic happens. Seriously, the best way to not feel like a tourist is to slow down, lose the itinerary, and let the place work its magic on you.
