Head across the river. Seriously. The area around Wat Arun is still pretty touristy, but if you wander a bit further down the smaller sois (side streets) you'll find places that are way less polished. Look for places packed with locals – often the ones with just a few plastic tables and chairs. Don't be afraid to just point at something on the menu and try it. You'll find amazing, cheap food that way. Trust your gut; if it looks busy with locals, it's probably great. Also, be prepared for some seriously spicy stuff!
