Hello,

I know these questions about tailors are overly asked. And for the most part, I keep hearing that these suit companies are not the best, but also not the worst.

Here's my situation: Getting married in a year and a friend recommended Crown Tailor as he also go his wedding suit from them. Neither of us traveled, they came to his town and are also coming to mine. All in all, they are offering 2 suits and some other things for like USD$2,000. This seems crazy?

Is Crown Tailor good? Are they worth while?

Again, I'm appreciating the travel to me, the ease of things, and I'm not looking for the best suit. Just middle of the road.

Please advice.

honestly $2k for two suits with a traveling tailor isnt bad at all, Crown's been on Sukhumvit Soi 4 for like 40 years so theyre not gonna rip you off and disappear

the thing nobody really talks about with these traveling operations is the trousers - Crown's house cut is pretty narrow in the leg which is fine if you're slim but if you've got thighs from squatting or cycling you'll want to ask for extra room in the seat and thigh specifically. I've seen three guys get wedding suits from them where the jacket fit great but the pants looked painted on

for a wedding suit you'll wear maybe once a year their fused construction is totally fine, just dont expect it to last through weekly wear. ask them to keep the extra fabric from the hem in case you need to let them out later

The $2,000 price tag for two suits with extras is actually pretty standard for Crown Tailor. They've been operating out of Bangkok for decades and have a solid reputation among expats and travelers who don't want to spend five days in the city for fittings.

The main thing with Crown is that their house style leans modern slim, which works well for most guys but isn't for everyone. If you're a bigger build or prefer a classic cut, make sure you're very clear about that during the measuring. I've seen a few guys end up with jackets that were cut too narrow through the shoulders because they didn't speak up.

The traveling service is convenient but you lose the ability to pop back into the shop for small tweaks. Make sure their fitting schedule in your town gives you enough time for at least one adjustment round before they pack up and leave.

$2,000 for two suits with extras actually isn't crazy for a traveling tailor if the fabric quality is decent. Crown Tailor has been around for a while and they use proper canvassing on their jackets, which is rare at that price point when you factor in the travel convenience.

The real question is whether you'll be around for the fitting appointments when they come to your town. Most complaints I hear about traveling tailors come from people who only had one quick fitting and then got stuck with a suit that didn't fit right. If you can get two or three sessions with them over the course of a few weeks, it's a solid deal.

I'd ask them specifically what weight of wool they're using for that price. A lot of these traveling operations will quote you in super 150s or 160s fabric which looks nice but doesn't hold up as well for regular wear. For a wedding suit you might not wear often, that's fine, but something to keep in mind.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
