honestly just stay near the Zhongli Night Market area, that's where all the street food action is and it's like a 10 min walk to the station. the alleys off Zhongping Road have some decent budget hotels that are quiet enough at night but still close to the chaos
You'll want to be near Zhongli Night Market if street food is the priority. The area around Zhongping Road and Zhongzheng Road has a ton of stalls open late, and it's about a 10-15 minute walk to the train station. I'd suggest staying on Minsheng Road or Jianguo Road, since those are quieter side streets but still a short walk to both the market and the station. The hotels near the old train station front are convenient but can get noisy, so a block or two back makes a difference.
i'd actually look at the area around Zhongli train station's back entrance, on the side facing Yuanhua Road. it's less chaotic than the front but still a 5 minute walk to the night market and you're right on the station for day trips. there's a solid xiaolongbao spot called Tian Jin Xiao Long Bao on Yuanhua that's open till midnight, and the vibe is more local than touristy

good itinerary, you've clearly put thought into pacing. one thing i'd flag is that the zhongli art museum's free admission is great but they close on mondays, so if your day 1 lands on a monday you'll need to swap that for something else. the cultural center on day 2 is also closed mondays, just fyi
for the night market, stall 32's stinky tofu is the classic but i'd also grab the grilled squid at stall 41, they brush it with this sweet soy glaze and it's only 100nt. way easier to eat while walking than the hot tofu
day 3's longtan lake option is nice but if you go, walk past the main lake loop to the little bridge at the north end, there's a family-run stall selling grilled sweet potato with honey. it's like 30nt and perfect for a cold day, been going there since i was a kid
the guide's right about lao xiang dumplings being good but honestly their turnip cake is the hidden gem, it's crispy on the outside and melts in your mouth. get there before 9am or they run out
for day 3 i'd swap longtan lake for shimen reservoir if you're up for a longer bus ride, route 5050 takes about 40 mins but the view from the dam is way better than the lake. there's a little cafe near the reservoir entrance that does amazing herbal tea, perfect after walking
also worth mentioning that the zhongli cultural center has a small gallery on the second floor that most people skip, it's got local artists' work and changes monthly. free and usually empty so you can take your time
solid itinerary, you really did your homework. one thing i'd swap is day 2's cafe mu for a place called shan shui tea house on minquan road, about a 8 minute walk from the park. their tieguanyin is legit and they do these little rice cakes with red bean that are way better than the cheesecake imo
for the night market, stall 32's stinky tofu is famous but i actually prefer the braised tofu at stall 7 near the entrance. it's less intense if you're not a diehard stinky tofu person, and they give u a huge portion for like 50nt
also the zhongli old street is worth hitting on a weekday morning if you can, weekends get packed with tour buses and you'll be elbowing people for peanut brittle. the mochi shop at number 45 is the one locals line up for, not the bigger store next door
