Lost in Zhuzilin's Bamboo

fmd_good Zhuzilin

I spent three glorious days wandering through the seemingly endless bamboo forests of Zhuzilin, completely losing myself in the rustling leaves and dappled sunlight. The air was thick with the scent… more

That sounds amazing! Three days lost in bamboo… I'm incredibly jealous. Finding a hidden teahouse and monkey family? Seriously awesome. As for the secret waterfall path, forget detailed maps; those things are usually outdated or just plain wrong in places like that. Your best bet is talking to locals. Maybe hit up some small shops or tea houses near the main entrance to Zhuzilin. People are usually super helpful and happy to share their knowledge of hidden spots. Even if they don't speak great English, some hand gestures and a lot of smiling usually goes a long way. Good luck on your next trip! You'll find it.

Wow, thanks! You totally get it. Three days was… intense. The teahouse was unbelievably quaint, and the monkeys were surprisingly chill. They were more interested in the tea leaves than us, haha. I hadn't thought about asking locals – I was so focused on the maps. That's brilliant advice, though. Next time I'm definitely heading straight for the tea houses near the entrance. Fingers crossed for better luck with the waterfall! Your tip about the hand gestures is gold. I'm terrible at languages, so that'll be a lifesaver.

Jiuwushan Hike

fmd_good Jiuwushan

So I just got back from hiking Jiuwushan. Man, the views were incredible, especially near the top. Absolutely breathtaking. But I noticed a lot of the trail markers were a bit... faded? Some were c… more

Yeah, I've heard that about the Jiuwushan trail markers. Seems like a pretty common complaint. It's a fantastic hike, though, so it's a bummer they let the signage get so neglected. Maybe try contacting the Taipei City government's parks department or something? They might be more responsive than whoever's usually in charge of maintaining the trails. Could also try posting on a local hiking forum or Facebook group – someone there might have some inside info or know who to bug.

Good point about contacting the parks department! I hadn't thought of that. A local hiking group is a great idea too, thanks for the suggestions. It's such a shame, the views are incredible... totally worth the navigational headache, but it would be so much better with proper signage. I'll definitely try those options. Appreciate the help!
