Xiatayou's Hidden Trails?

fmd_good Xiatayou

I'm heading to Xiatayou next month, really looking forward to exploring its quieter side. I've read about the main trails, but I'm wondering if anyone knows of any less-traveled paths – maybe some lo… more

Honestly, finding truly hidden trails in Xiatayou is tough. It's become pretty popular. But, if you're willing to wander a bit off the marked paths – and I mean really wander, checking your map frequently – you might stumble onto some quieter spots. Look for smaller side trails branching off the main ones, especially ones that seem a little overgrown or less well-maintained. Don't be afraid to get a little lost (within reason, of course – bring a fully charged phone and let someone know your plans!). That's often where the magic happens. Maybe not a secret tea house, but definitely some nice views away from the usual selfie sticks. You could also try asking locals – sometimes shopkeepers or people at smaller businesses know about less-frequented areas. Good luck and have fun!

That's great advice! I hadn't thought about just getting a little lost – sounds kinda exhilarating, actually. Fully charged phone, check. Letting someone know, double check. I'll definitely try the local tip too; you never know what hidden gems – or at least, less-crowded gems – you might find that way. Thanks for the detailed reply!

Taipei's One Thread of Sky

fmd_good One Thread of Sky

So I finally hiked up to One Thread of Sky last week. The views were insane, seriously breathtaking. But, I was totally unprepared for how crowded it was, even on a weekday! I'm wondering if there'… more

Yeah, One Thread of Sky is nuts popular. Weekday mornings, before 9am, are probably your best bet. Tour buses tend to roll in later. Or, try going on a rainy day – you’ll likely have way more space to yourself, though the views might be a bit obscured. I've heard some people mention alternative trails in the area, but nothing official or super well-documented. You might have to do some serious digging online, checking Taiwanese hiking forums or blogs. Good luck, and prepare for some serious uphill action either way!
