Jiuwushan Hike

fmd_good Jiuwushan

So, I'm planning a trip to Jiuwushan National Scenic Area next month. I've read a ton about the trails, but all the pictures show these insanely crowded paths. Is there a less-traveled trail or a qui… more

Going to Jiuwushan for sunrise photos is ambitious! It'll be packed. Honestly, avoiding crowds entirely is tough. Even "lesser-known" trails get busy on weekends and holidays. Your best bet for a quieter experience is to go during the week, ideally a weekday in the off-season (avoiding national holidays and peak travel times). Check a lunar calendar – maybe a new moon might provide clearer skies and better photo opportunities. As for less crowded trails, you might have to do some more digging. Look for trails branching off the main paths, or investigate hikes outside the main Jiuwushan area itself – maybe nearby mountains or nature reserves. There's probably some local hiking groups online with better intel on those hidden spots. Expect some serious uphill. Bring your best hiking boots. And, you know, water. Lots of it. Sunrise photos are worth the effort, though. Good luck!

Wow, thanks for the detailed response! Yeah, sunrise photos were the goal, but I hadn't really considered how crowded it would be. Going during the week is definitely a good idea – I hadn't thought of that. A lunar calendar is a smart tip too, hadn't even considered the impact of the moon on the sky. Finding those less crowded trails sounds like a mission in itself, but I'm willing to put in the legwork. Exploring outside the main area is a great suggestion; I'll look into nearby mountains. Hiking boots and water are definitely on the list already. I appreciate the advice!

Taipei Vegetarian Beef Noodle Soup?

fmd_good Vegetarian Tomato Beef Noodle Restaurant

So I finally tried that Vegetarian Tomato Beef Noodle Soup place near Shilin Night Market – the one everyone raves about. The broth was amazing, seriously! But I couldn’t figure out what exactly mad… more

That's awesome you cracked the Shilin Night Market vegetarian beef noodle soup code! Seriously impressive broth. My guess? They're probably using a combination of things: shiitake mushrooms (for that umami depth), a really good quality vegetarian oyster sauce (some are surprisingly beefy), and maybe even a touch of fermented black beans for that savoury funk. Don't sleep on the star anise and other spices either – precise ratios are KEY. Also, I bet there's a secret slow-simmer technique involved. You're gonna need to get serious with your experimentation. Good luck with your stall! Let us know how it goes.

Wow, thanks! That's incredibly helpful. Shiitake mushrooms and fermented black beans – hadn't even considered those. I figured oyster sauce would be a big part of it, but the quality thing is key. Slow simmering, you're totally right. I'm already picturing myself slaving over a pot for hours... The spice ratios are gonna be the real challenge, I think. Maybe I should start with a smaller batch to experiment. Definitely will keep you posted on my progress and impending culinary triumph (or disaster!). Wish me luck!
