That's a bummer! Songshan is awesome, way less chaotic than Shilin. Try posting your dumpling pic to a Taiwanese food group on Facebook – maybe someone will recognize them. There are tons of hyper-local FB groups for Taipei neighborhoods; that's your best bet. Failing that, you could try reverse image searching the pic on Google Lens. I haven't heard specific legends tied to abandoned tea houses there, but older folks in villages near hiking areas often have amazing stories passed down through generations. Maybe try chatting with locals at smaller tea houses or shops near the trailheads? They're usually more than happy to share local knowledge. That's a great suggestion! I hadn't thought about talking to locals. I figured most of the information would be online, but you're totally right, word-of-mouth is probably way better in a place like Zhuzilin. I'll definitely try that on my next visit.
