Nah, no secret rooftop bar at the Taipei Marriott. Been there, done that, got the slightly overpriced cocktail. Gorgeous views from the regular bars, though. Sunset drinks? Go for the hotel's main bar – amazing panorama. Save the "secret elevator" fantasies for a different trip. You'll be fine.

Nah, no food fights. That's total folklore. Gongguan is awesome, though. Tons of amazing street food, but it's all pretty civilized. You'll see some intense eating – people devouring mountains of oyster omelets, that kind of thing – but nobody's chucking stinky tofu. Save the raincoat for a typhoon, maybe. You'll have a blast!
