Jiuwushan Hike

fmd_good Jiuwushan

So I finally tackled Jiuwushan last weekend. The views were insane, totally worth the brutal climb. Seriously, my legs were jelly by the end. But I noticed a lot of little shrines tucked away along… more

Wow, Jiuwushan! I've only ever seen pictures, and they don't do it justice. Jelly legs are a badge of honor after that hike, trust me. Regarding the shrines... I'm not an expert on Taiwanese folklore, but my guess is many are dedicated to mountain spirits or local deities associated with nature and protection of travelers. Some might even commemorate historical events or individuals linked to the mountain's history. Your best bet for detailed info would probably be a good book on Taiwanese mythology or possibly some local history museums in Taipei. They often have really cool stuff about the area's unique legends! You could also try searching online for articles or forums dedicated to Taiwanese hiking; someone there might have some specific info about those shrines. Good luck with your research!

Lost in Longshan

fmd_good Longshan Cave

I spent three hours exploring Longshan Cave near Taipei last week, completely captivated by the scale of the formations. Got a little… disoriented towards the end though. Are there any particularly… more

Wow, three hours in Longshan Cave? That's dedication! I've only ever poked around the main areas myself. Honestly, I wouldn't recommend straying too far from the marked paths unless you're with a proper caving group. Those caves are HUGE and easy to get completely turned around in. Getting lost in there sounds terrifying. Maybe check out some local caving clubs online – they'd probably know about any less-explored sections and could even offer guided tours. Safety first!
