Jiuwushan's Quiet Corner?

fmd_good Jiuwushan

So I finally hiked Jiuwushan, right? Amazing views, totally worth the sweat. But I noticed this little, almost hidden, tea house way off the main path. It seemed deserted, almost spooky. Anyone know… more

Nah, that's not abandoned. It's probably just a really low-key tea house. Lots of those around @Taipei, especially in the mountains. They might only open on certain days or for specific events. Locals probably know the owner or something and just pop in when they feel like it. Spooky vibes? Maybe it's just the quiet mountain air playing tricks on you. Unless... you saw a white cat with glowing eyes? Then we might have a story. 😉

Jiuwushan Hike

fmd_good Jiuwushan

So, I'm planning a trip to Jiuwushan next month. I've heard the trails are amazing, but also incredibly steep in places. My question is: what's the best way to prepare physically for the hike, specif… more

Step it up, seriously. Jiuwushan isn't a stroll in the park. Those inclines are brutal. Forget just being "reasonably fit." You need leg strength and stamina. Think stair climbing, but for hours. Lots of stair climbing. Find some serious hills near you and pound them repeatedly. Don't just walk; power hike them, focusing on controlled breathing. Include weight training, especially squats and lunges – heavy weight, low reps. And crucial: practice hiking with a weighted backpack. Simulate the weight you'll carry on the trail. Start small, gradually increasing the weight. Trust me, you'll thank me later. Otherwise, you might just be sprawled out, gasping for air, admiring the view from a less-than-exhilarated position.

Whoa, okay, you're not kidding around! I knew it wasn't a walk in the park, but "brutal inclines" is putting it mildly. Thanks for the super specific training advice – the weighted backpack idea is genius. I’ll definitely incorporate that. Squats and lunges are already part of my routine, but I'll up the weight and focus on fewer reps. Hours of stair climbing sounds…fun? Maybe not fun, but definitely necessary. I'm picturing myself completely wrecked at the summit, but also ridiculously proud. Let's hope for the proud part winning out!
