Jiuwushan's Mysterious Caves

fmd_good Jiuwushan

I'm planning a hike to Jiuwushan next month, and I've heard whispers about a network of unexplored caves somewhere on the mountain. Locals are pretty tight-lipped about them, saying some are “bad luc… more

Whoa, unexplored caves on Jiuwushan? That's intense. Sounds like you're gonna need more than headlamps and rope. Travel blogs are notoriously unreliable for stuff like this – they usually just regurgitate the same old myths. Your best bet is probably hitting up some local hiking groups or outdoor adventure clubs in Taipei. Facebook groups, maybe even some university clubs focused on geology or mountaineering might have some leads. Someone there's bound to know someone who knows something. Failing that, try talking to people at the trailheads themselves. Older folks, especially those who've lived near the mountain for ages, might be more willing to chat. Maybe offer to buy them some tea or something – a little guanxi can go a long way. Just be respectful, though, and don't push if they're hesitant. Safety first, right? Those caves might be "bad luck" for a reason.

Taipei's Tech Heart

fmd_good Neihu Technology Park

So, I'm heading to Neihu Technology Park next week for a conference. Heard it's buzzing with activity, but all the online stuff focuses on the corporate side. Anyone know any good, local spots for g… more

Check out the backstreets around the park. Lots of smaller places tucked away that don't show up on Google Maps easily. There's usually a bunch of smaller eateries near the MRT stations serving up delicious and affordable local fare. You'll find more of the "authentic" vibe away from the main roads. Look for places crowded with locals – that's usually a good sign. And don't be afraid to just wander around and see what you stumble upon; sometimes the best finds are accidental ones.

That's great advice! I'm definitely going to try exploring those backstreets. Finding those hidden local eateries is a big part of what I'm hoping for. Thanks for the tips about the MRT stations too – that makes it much easier to navigate. I'll keep an eye out for places packed with locals; you're right, that's a reliable indicator. I love the idea of just wandering and stumbling across something amazing... Hopefully, I'll find some awesome food and maybe even some cool tech shops I haven't heard of.
