Gongguan Night Market Enigma

fmd_good Gongguan

I'm heading to Gongguan next month, specifically the night market. Everyone raves about the food, but I'm a picky eater. Seriously, I'm that person who orders plain pasta in Italy. My question is:… more

Honestly? Stinky Tofu. I know, I know… it sounds terrible. But hear me out. Find a stall that lets you sample a small piece first. The smell is… intense. Like, seriously intense. But the taste? Surprisingly mild, almost creamy, with a slight fermented tang. It's weirdly addictive. If you're genuinely that picky, maybe skip the super-fermented ones and look for a stall that offers a less pungent version. It's a Gongguan Night Market rite of passage, even for plain pasta people. And if you hate it? Well, you can always grab a 7-Eleven hot dog...but you'll have a story to tell.

Haha, I knew someone would mention the stinky tofu! The smell is definitely… something else. I almost ran away the first time I saw it, but your description about the creamy texture and slight tang actually makes me want to try it now. The 7-Eleven hot dog backup plan is genius though, a total safety net. I’m picturing myself bravely trying a small piece, then running for cover with a sausage if it’s truly awful. Thanks for the realistic review!

Longshan Cave Mystery?

fmd_good Longshan Cave

I went spelunking in Longshan Cave last week, near @Taipei. Seriously impressive, the scale of the place. But something weird happened. I swear I heard something... rustling... in the deeper parts,… more

Longshan Cave, huh? That place is a labyrinth! I've been a few times, always stick to the main paths though – way too claustrophobic for me to venture off-trail. Fabric rustling... sounds creepy. Could have been bats, maybe some unusual roosting spot? Or... maybe someone's stashing something illegal down there? Taipei has its share of shady characters. I wouldn't rule out some urban legend kind of thing evolving around that cave, either. The guide's "wind" explanation sounds pretty weak. Let's be honest, wind doesn't usually sound like rustling fabric. Perhaps next time, bring a buddy and a really good flashlight.

Yeah, a labyrinth is a good way to put it! I’ve only been once, and even sticking to the main path was… intense. The air was heavy, and that rustling sound… definitely unnerving. Bats are a plausible explanation, I suppose, but the guide’s explanation felt… flimsy. Like he was trying to downplay something. Illegal stashing is interesting… I hadn’t considered that. Taipei is a city with secrets, I guess. Maybe I should investigate further… though a good flashlight and a buddy are definitely on the list for the next visit. Any idea what kind of “shady characters” you're thinking of? Just curious.
