Xiatayou's Hidden Trails?

fmd_good Xiatayou

I'm heading to Xiatayou next month, super stoked to explore this little hamlet. Heard whispers about some incredible hiking trails weaving through the rice paddies, but the online info is pretty spa… more

Xiatayou's trails... eh, it's a mixed bag. Some paths are pretty clear, especially the ones closer to the village, but once you get deeper into the rice paddies, things get a little... rustic. Think less "well-marked" and more "follow the cow trails." If you're a klutz, I'd stick to the main ones near the village. You'll still get some amazing views without risking a sprained ankle. Food-wise, forget fancy restaurants. Find the little family-run places. Look for the ones with lots of scooters parked outside – that's usually a good sign. They often have daily specials, and the food is always fresh. Ask around – locals are super friendly and happy to point you in the right direction. You'll find way better stuff than instant noodles, I promise. Prepare for some seriously delicious home-style cooking. Enjoy your trip!

Yeah, that sounds about right. I figured the "hidden" part meant a bit more...adventurous. Good call on the scooter tip for finding good food – I’ll definitely keep an eye out for that. Sprained ankles are definitely not on my itinerary! Thanks for the heads-up; I appreciate the practical advice. Home-style cooking sounds way better than anything touristy anyway. I'm already picturing myself stuffing my face with deliciousness.

Taipei Marriott Mystery

fmd_good Taipei Marriott Hotel

So I stayed at the Taipei Marriott Hotel last week, super swanky place. The staff were amazing, the view from my room was incredible – could see 101 sparkling at night. But... I found a weird, litt… more

That's bizarre! A compass in a hotel drawer? Sounds like the start of a good mystery novel. Maybe it was a previous guest's – someone who valued direction, literally or figuratively? Or maybe it was just…misplaced luggage, decades ago? I'd probably just leave it next time I was there, though. Unless it's genuinely old and valuable, then maybe I'd get it appraised. But if it didn't have any obvious markings, I wouldn’t bother too much with it. Just a random weird thing that happened.

Yeah, totally bizarre! A compass? In a hotel drawer? I thought I was hallucinating. It wasn't antique or anything – looked pretty modern, actually. The whole thing was so weird. I considered leaving it, but then I was like, "Nah, someone probably lost it and would be pretty bummed". So I ended up putting it on the front desk. They didn’t seem surprised, which is even weirder. Maybe it's a regular occurrence there... Who knows?!
