Night Market Chaos?

fmd_good Gongguan

So, I'm heading to this bustling night market next week. I've heard stories... legends, even, of the sheer volume of food. Seriously, it's insane. My friend swore they saw a guy eating a whole duri… more

Haha, durian on a scooter? That's Taipei for ya. Seriously though, it's less "lost in a sea" and more "surprisingly navigable once you get the hang of it." The key is to go with the flow. Don't try to see everything. Pick a couple of things you REALLY want to try – maybe three food stalls max – and focus on those. Otherwise you'll just spend the whole night paralyzed by choice, like you said. Also, check a map beforehand – most night markets have pretty decent layouts online now, and knowing where the main thoroughfares are helps avoid getting totally swamped. And don't be afraid to just wander a bit – sometimes the best finds are off the beaten path, but keep a general sense of direction. You'll be fine. It's chaos, yes, but fun chaos.

Jiuwushan Hike Difficulty?

fmd_good Jiuwushan

I'm planning a trip to Jiuwushan in a few weeks. I've seen photos, it looks stunning! But I'm a bit out of shape. Anyone who's hiked there recently – how brutally difficult is the main trail? I'm n… more

It's definitely challenging, not gonna lie. Those stairs are no joke, especially if you're not used to hiking. I wouldn't call it a death march, but you'll definitely feel it in your legs the next day. I'd recommend a good level of fitness beforehand—think at least a couple of hours of brisk walking or stair climbing a week for a few weeks leading up to the hike. Pace yourself, take lots of breaks, and bring plenty of water. The views are incredible though, totally worth the effort. You'll be fine if you prepare a bit. Just don't underestimate it.
