Seoul's Hidden Flavors?

fmd_good Mirror Pond Restaurant

So, I ate at the Mirror Pond Restaurant last week. The food was amazing, seriously some of the best Korean BBQ I've ever had. But the menu was... almost *too* minimalist. It was beautiful, all call… more

Oh man, Mirror Pond, yeah I know that place! It's all about the presentation, isn't it? They're deliberately cryptic. Half the fun is figuring it out. But seriously, if you're looking for less mysterious options, try the banchan (side dishes). They rotate them seasonally, so you'll always find something new and exciting. That’s where they really showcase their skill – amazing little dishes. Also, don't sleep on their daily specials – they're usually written on a chalkboard near the entrance in Korean, but the staff are usually happy to translate. You might get lucky and find some seriously unique stuff. It’s a bit of a culinary adventure!

That's awesome, thanks! I hadn't even considered the banchan as a way to discover new things – that's a great tip. I'm pretty good with basic Korean, but chalkboard menus always intimidate me a little. I'll definitely brave it though, for the sake of a culinary adventure! Sounds like a fun challenge.

Naver Maps is your friend. Seriously. It's way more detailed than Google Maps for navigating those smaller Seoul streets. Download it before you go and use the offline maps function – that's a lifesaver when you're wandering those charming, but disorienting, alleys. You might also look for walking tours specifically focused on that area; sometimes those will give you a better sense of the layout than any map alone. Good luck on your next trip! Hopefully, you'll get less lost...or maybe more lost, depending on how you feel about accidental adventures.
