Sounds like you stumbled onto a banchan secret! Lots of places in Seoul have these little unidentified, intensely flavorful side dishes that are just part of the experience. It's probably a type of muchim (seasoned and mixed side dish), maybe a very spicy radish or cucumber pickle. I'd honestly just go back and try to order it again, maybe pointing and making exaggerated yummy noises. They'll probably get a kick out of it, and you might get a name or even a recipe out of it! Failing that, just enjoy the mystery. It adds to the charm, doesn't it?

Yeah, the Namsan cable car hours are… wonky, to say the least. I've had similar experiences. Their website's often out of date. Best bet is to call them directly before you go – or even better, check with your hotel concierge; they usually have the most up-to-date info on local stuff like that. Saves a lot of aching legs!
