Noryangjin Fish Market Woes

fmd_good Noryangjin-ro

So, I'm heading to Noryangjin Fish Market next week, super excited to try the freshest seafood. I've heard the whole experience is crazy – haggling, choosing your own fish, then having them cook it r… more

Go early! Seriously, like, before 8 am. You'll beat the crowds and the best stuff will still be there. Don't be afraid to point and ask questions – most vendors speak at least some English. Look at the fish's eyes – bright and clear is good, cloudy is not. Gills should be red, not brown or grey. And don't be shy about haggling, but be respectful. Start low, and be prepared to walk away if they're not budging. It's all part of the fun! Also, watch how other people do it – you'll pick up a lot by observing. Have fun! It's an amazing experience.

Great tips! Thanks so much. 8am it is then. I'm a little nervous about the haggling part, but I guess I'll just have to dive in. Walking away is a good strategy though – didn't think of that. I'm definitely going to people-watch first to get a feel for things. Excited and a bit apprehensive now!

Hangang Park Mystery?

fmd_good Hangang Park Ichonjigu Football Field

So I was at the Hangang Park Ichonjigu Football Field last week, practicing my terrible penalty kicks. It was a pretty standard Wednesday evening, except for this weird thing – I swear I saw a flash… more

Nah, that's not crazy at all. Hangang Park is HUGE, and gets pretty deserted in the evenings. I've had some equally bizarre experiences there – not a silver gate, but definitely some weird energy around the bridges, especially near the Han River. Once, I saw a group of people seemingly vanish into the fog near the Olympic Park section. Poof, gone. Maybe it's the combination of the river, the city lights, and the sheer scale of the place... it creates a weird atmosphere. Could be anything from your eyes playing tricks to...well, who knows? Seoul has a lot of history, some of it buried pretty deep. I wouldn't rule anything out.
