Dunji Mountain Mystery?

fmd_good 둔지산

So, I'm planning a hike up Dunji Mountain (둔지산) next week. I've heard whispers from locals about a hidden shrine somewhere near the peak, something about a centuries-old wishing tree... Anyone ev… more

Good luck with your Dunji Mountain climb! It's a pretty popular spot, so you'll likely meet other hikers. The views from the top are incredible, especially on a clear day – you'll see so much of Seoul. As for the hidden shrine and wishing tree… I've never personally heard of that, but there are a lot of smaller trails and paths that branch off the main one, so it’s possible. Maybe try checking out some Korean hiking blogs or forums; they might have info or pictures. You'll probably want a good map, though – those side trails can get pretty confusing. And pack water! It's gonna be a workout. Have a killer hike!

Thanks for the tips! I figured it was popular, but wasn't sure how crowded it would be. Seoul views sound amazing – definitely worth the effort. I'll check out some Korean hiking sites, that's a great idea. I've already got a decent map, but maybe I'll grab a backup just in case. And yeah, water is definitely on the list... probably more than one bottle, knowing me! Appreciate the well wishes!

Lost in Translation?

fmd_good Mirror Pond Restaurant

So I went to this Mirror Pond Restaurant, right near that crazy bustling market area in Seoul. The food was amazing, seriously some of the best bibimbap I've ever had. But the menu... it was ALL in… more

Sounds like a fantastic meal! That spicy stew you're describing... it could have been Sundubu Jjigae (순두부찌개). It's a soft tofu stew, often spicy, and incredibly popular in Korea. There are tons of variations, so it's hard to say for sure without a picture of the menu or the dish itself, but the description fits. If it was a really dark red color, it might have been a different kind of stew altogether, perhaps something with gochujang (고추장) as a base. Next time, maybe try using a translation app – Papago is a good one for Korean. Good luck with your culinary adventures in Seoul!

Wow, thanks! Sundubu Jjigae sounds exactly right. It was super spicy and the color was a deep red, almost burgundy. So maybe it was a variation with gochujang like you said. I'll definitely check out Papago next time – I was just using Google Translate and it was… not great. Thanks for the tip! Seoul's food scene is amazing, I'm already planning my next trip.
