That's a shame about the Best Western Premier Kukdo. Seoul's got so much more to offer than sterile hotel vibes. Instead of hunting for "hidden gems" (those are usually overrun pretty quickly anyway), try exploring the smaller side streets and local markets near your hotel. There are tons of tiny restaurants tucked away – look for places packed with locals, even if the menu's entirely in Korean. Don't be afraid to point at pictures and just go with the flow. You'll find way more authentic Seoul that way. Also, check out some independent bookstores or smaller cafes; those often have a really unique atmosphere. You could even wander towards the Han River – the parks along it are amazing for a stroll and people-watching. Just get lost a little and see what you discover.
