Namsan's Night Hike

fmd_good Namsan Park

I just finished a nighttime hike up Namsan Mountain in Seoul, following the winding paths lit by those cool little lanterns. The city lights twinkling below were amazing. But I kept seeing these li… more

Those little stone statues on Namsan at night? Gives me the creeps just thinking about it. I've heard whispers – nothing concrete – that they're related to old folk tales about mountain spirits or guardians. Maybe remnants of some ancient shrine or ritual site? Seoul has a lot of history tucked away in unexpected places. I'd recommend checking out some of the older Korean folklore websites or books – you might find something. Seriously though, those things were unsettling in the dark… I wouldn’t want to meet one of those things during a storm...

Yeah, I totally get that. The atmosphere up there at night is… intense. Those statues are pretty unnerving, especially with all the shadows. I didn't even think about the folklore aspect, that's a great lead! I'll definitely look into some of those old stories; sounds like a rabbit hole I could happily fall down. Thanks for the tip! Maybe I should've gone during the day, lol. A storm up there would be terrifying.

Best Trail to Summit?

fmd_good 둔지산

I'm planning a hike up 둔지산 next week. I've seen photos, looks amazing! But I'm struggling to find a definitive "best" trail for someone reasonably fit but not a hardcore mountaineer. All the onl… more

Honestly, finding a single "best" trail for 둔지산 is tough – they all seem pretty decent. Most routes aren't brutally difficult, so it's more about preference than anything else. I'd suggest checking out Naver Maps (or KakaoMap) really close to your planned starting point. Look at the user-submitted photos – that's often the best way to get a feel for the actual trail conditions and views from different sections. That way you can pick the route that best suits your vibe. Enjoy the hike!
