NUS Food Stalls: A Culinary Mystery

fmd_good National University of Singapore

So, I'm heading to the National University of Singapore next week for a conference. I've heard the food court there is legendary, a sprawling labyrinth of hawker stalls with dishes from all over Asi… more

Forget the online menus – they're useless. Just wander around and trust your gut. Look for the stalls with the longest queues; those usually indicate good food. Don't be afraid to peek at what people are eating – that's half the fun! And if you see a stall with a bunch of students huddled around it, that's a strong sign. Oof, that's a bummer about the service at Les Bouchons Rochester. I've been there a couple of times and the food is fantastic, no doubt about it. But yeah, the pacing can be... erratic, to put it mildly. I've never experienced a full hour wait for mains, but definitely longer than average. It's a small place, always packed, so I think that's a big part of it. Maybe they're understaffed? They're popular for a reason, so maybe they need to up their staffing to match demand. Your wine order disappearing is less forgivable though. I’d say it’s a mixed bag – amazing food, inconsistent service. Worth going back for the food, but manage your expectations.
