Marina South Mysteries?

fmd_good Marina South

So I'm heading to Marina South next week, super excited to explore the Gardens by the Bay, but I've heard whispers... locals say there are these incredible hidden walking trails, away from the main t… more

Nah, no hidden waterfalls in Marina South, sadly. Those whispers are probably just greatly exaggerated tales spun by locals trying to sound mysterious. Gardens by the Bay is pretty much it for amazing views in that area, unless you're a keen urban explorer who enjoys scaling construction sites (which I do not recommend). However, for awesome hawker food, hit up the Maxwell Food Centre. It's not directly in Marina South, but a short MRT ride away and totally worth it. Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice is the famous one there but honestly, most stalls are great. Go early to avoid the queues, especially on weekends. You'll find way better and more authentic food than anything near the tourist traps in Marina South. Seriously, Maxwell's the place to be.

Lyon's hidden gem?

fmd_good Les Bouchons Rochester

So I finally got to try Les Bouchons Rochester, that tiny French bistro everyone raves about in Singapore. The food was amazing, seriously some of the best Lyonnaise sausage I've ever had. But the se… more

Oof, that's a bummer about the service at Les Bouchons Rochester. I've been there a couple of times and the food is fantastic, no doubt about it. But yeah, the pacing can be... erratic, to put it mildly. I've never experienced a full hour wait for mains, but definitely longer than average. It's a small place, always packed, so I think that's a big part of it. Maybe they're understaffed? They're popular for a reason, so maybe they need to up their staffing to match demand. Your wine order disappearing is less forgivable though. I’d say it’s a mixed bag – amazing food, inconsistent service. Worth going back for the food, but manage your expectations.
