Nah, there's no secret back entrance or anything. Polo Club is just that kind of place. Upscale, stiff, the whole nine yards. You weren't out of place in jeans; you were perfectly appropriately dressed for most of Singapore. It's just the Polo Club cultivating that vibe. If you want a similar level of food but a more relaxed atmosphere, you might explore some of the restaurants in the Dempsey Hill area. They tend to be a bit more chill, still good food, without the whole "royal wedding" dress code. Maybe give that a shot next time.
