NUS Food Stalls: A Culinary Quest?

fmd_good National University of Singapore

I'm heading to the National University of Singapore next week for a conference. Everyone keeps raving about the food at the various hawker centres and canteens scattered across campus – apparently, i… more

It's less a hierarchy and more a delightful chaos. Honestly, locals just kinda...go with their gut. There's no "secret menu," but some stalls are definitely more popular than others – you'll notice the queues. Look for places with lots of students, especially during lunch rushes. They usually know what's good. Also, don't be afraid to wander and try different things each day! It's part of the fun. You'll probably discover your own favorites pretty quickly. Plus, exploring the different canteens is half the adventure. Enjoy the culinary adventure!

Image delia · home · · OP

That's a great way to put it! The "delightful chaos" perfectly describes it. I'm definitely planning on hitting up the busiest stalls first – following the student crowds sounds like a solid strategy. Exploring the different canteens each day... that's a fantastic idea, I hadn't even considered that. Thanks for the tips! I'm already getting hungry just thinking about it.

NUH Parking Nightmare?

fmd_good National University Hospital

So I'm visiting my aunt at the National University Hospital, NUH, for a week. Getting there is a breeze, but parking? Forget about it! It's like a Hunger Games scenario for a spot every single day… more

Pasir Panjang Terminal Haulage Woes?

fmd_good Pasir Panjang Terminal

So I'm heading to Pasir Panjang Terminal next week for a work thing, and I've heard horror stories about the traffic getting in and out. Seriously, gridlock apparently. Anyone got any tips for navig… more

Image selina ·

Oof, Pasir Panjang Terminal. Yeah, the traffic is legendary. Next week huh? That's...brave. Seriously though, aim for the absolute earliest time you can possibly get there. Like, before sunrise early. Traffic builds ridiculously fast. There aren't really any "secret routes," it's all pretty much one big choke point. Check Google Maps religiously the day before and on the day itself, for real-time updates. Maybe even use a GPS app with live traffic features. Consider public transport if at all possible, even if it adds a bit of travel time. It might actually be faster. If you absolutely have to drive, maybe look at parking options a bit away and taking a Grab/taxi the last bit to save yourself the insane hunt for a spot inside the terminal area. Good luck, you'll need it!

NUS Food Stalls: A Culinary Quest?

fmd_good National University of Singapore

So I'm heading to the National University of Singapore (NUS) next week for a conference. Heard the food court options are legendary, but with so many stalls, it's a bit overwhelming. Anyone know the… more

Sanny Park Sunrise?

fmd_good Sanny Park

I'm heading to Sanny Park next week for a photography trip – always loved the way the light hits the old shophouses there. I've seen tons of pictures online, but I’m curious, what’s the best spot to… more

Head to the top of the hill near the park entrance. Seriously, the view from there is amazing. You'll get a panoramic shot, not just rooftops. For kopi-o afterwards, try the little Hainanese kopitiam tucked away on Joo Chiat Road – it's a bit of a walk but worth it for the old-school vibe and strong brew. Get there early though, it fills up fast.

Image delia · home · · OP

Wow, thanks! That sounds perfect. Panoramic shot... sold. And a strong kopi-o to cap it off? Even better. Joo Chiat Road, got it. I'll aim to be there super early then. Appreciate the tip!

Value Hotel Woes?

fmd_good Value Hotel

Stayed at the Value Hotel near the airport last week. Everything was fine...until the air conditioning died at 3 AM. Seriously, the temperature was like a sauna. I ended up sleeping on the balcony!… more

Contact the hotel directly. Explain what happened, calmly but firmly. Mention the significant disruption to your sleep and planned rest before a long flight. Have your booking confirmation ready, and any photos you might have taken of the faulty AC unit. If they're unresponsive or unhelpful, escalate it to their customer service department or consider leaving a strongly worded review on TripAdvisor or Google Reviews – sometimes that's the fastest way to get a response. Don't expect a full refund, maybe a partial one or a voucher for a future stay. Good luck, that sounds awful!

Founders' Memorial Mystery

fmd_good Founders’ Memorial

So I finally got to visit the Founders' Memorial in Singapore. The architecture is stunning, seriously impressive. Spent hours wandering around, reading the displays, reflecting on Singapore's hist… more

Weird! I was there last month and didn't even notice an alcove. Maybe it's a service area for maintenance or something? Or perhaps they're planning an expansion/update and that's part of it? I'd check the Founders' Memorial website – they usually have pretty detailed info on their design and construction. If not there, maybe try reaching out to the National Heritage Board directly; they might know.

Image delia · home · · OP

That's a good point about it being a service area! I hadn't thought of that. Their website is pretty sparse, though. I'll try the National Heritage Board – thanks for the suggestion! It's just so odd; I've been to the Founders' Memorial several times and never noticed anything like it before. Maybe it's brand new? Spooky...

Value Hotel Woes?

fmd_good Value Hotel

So I stayed at the Value Hotel near Orchard Road last week. It was...fine. Clean enough, decent location. But the wifi was absolutely atrocious. Seriously, slower than dial-up. I should of just us… more

Image luisa ·

Ugh, that's a nightmare. Value Hotel near Orchard Road, huh? I've stayed there a few times – years ago, mind you – and the wifi was always… questionable. I wouldn't bank on any improvements, to be honest. Singapore's generally got amazing internet, so it's baffling they haven't sorted that out. Your best bet is probably just using your mobile data, unfortunately. Or maybe look into hotels with better reviews for internet access if you’re really worried about it this time around.

Lyon's best kept secret?

fmd_good Les Bouchons Rochester

So I finally made it to Les Bouchons Rochester, after hearing whispers about it from a friend who lived in @Singapore for a year. The place was packed – buzzing atmosphere, everyone seemed to know ea… more

Haha, that sounds amazing! Les Bouchons Rochester is a classic. The bread thing? It's just part of the Lyonnaise experience. They practically force-feed you bread with every dish, it's part of the charm... and the carb-loading. Seriously, you haven't truly experienced a bouchon until you've surrendered to the bread onslaught. Next time, pace yourself! You'll need room for dessert.

Image delia · home · · OP

Oh my god, you're totally right! Les Bouchons Rochester sounds incredible. I was completely overwhelmed by the bread – I felt like I was in some kind of carb-coma by the end of the meal. Seriously, I should of paced myself. Dessert was amazing, though, totally worth the bread-induced stupor. Thanks for the tip!

Benjamin Sheares Bridge Bike Ride?

fmd_good Benjamin Sheares Bridge

So I'm planning a cycling trip across the Benjamin Sheares Bridge – heard it offers stunning views of the harbor. Thing is, I’m a bit of a nervous Nellie on bikes, especially on anything remotely hig… more

Image irina ·

Sunrise is a great idea! Traffic should be minimal then. The bridge itself isn't crazily steep or anything, but it's pretty long and exposed, so the height might still be a factor for you. Maybe try a practice run on a less busy, similarly long bridge beforehand to build confidence? And definitely go with a buddy if you can – it's always safer, and having someone there for support makes a huge difference. Also, make sure your bike's brakes are top-notch!
