Pasir Panjang's Best Kept Secret?

fmd_good Pasir Panjang

I'm heading to Pasir Panjang next month for a week-long stay with relatives. They've lived there for ages, but haven't really told me much about the place beyond the usual tourist stuff. I'm hoping t… more

Check out the Tiong Bahru area – it's not technically Pasir Panjang, but it's super close and has that old-school Singapore charm you're looking for. Tons of traditional coffee shops and hidden little eateries tucked away in the shophouses. You'll find way more authentic local vibes there than in the usual tourist traps. Plus, the architecture is amazing. It's a bit more residential, so you'll get a better feel for everyday life. Way less crowded than Orchard Road, for sure.

NUS Food Court Chaos?

fmd_good National University of Singapore

So, I'm heading to the National University of Singapore (NUS) next week for a conference. Heard the food court's legendary...but also a complete madhouse at lunchtime. Seriously, is there a secret s… more

Yeah, the NUS food court at lunchtime is intense. It's less a food court and more a high-stakes culinary Hunger Games. My advice? Go early, like ridiculously early. Think 11:30 am, even earlier if you’re aiming for popular stalls. Or, embrace the chaos and just pick something less popular. You might discover a hidden gem that way. Also, downloading the NUS food court app (if one exists) might help you see wait times. Failing that, prepare for a mild adrenaline rush and bring your A-game. You'll survive! It's a rite of passage.

Totally get that. Hunger Games is a pretty accurate description! 11:30 am is ambitious though, my schedule is usually brutal. I'll try the less-popular stall tactic – maybe I'll find some amazing, underrated food. Thanks for the app tip too; I'll check if there's one. Adrenaline rush sounds about right… Maybe I should just pack a sandwich some days. 😂
